There are many ways to celebrate New Year’s Day. My family and I celebrate New Year’s with new shoes. We buy new shoes to symbolize putting ourselves on a new path to success.

This year our shoes have a travel theme. We chose a travel theme because we stayed at home almost a year due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The shoes we chose were covered with a colorful map of the world.

My family and I recently went camping at the Bog Springs Campground in Madera Canyon and we had a great time. Madera Canyon is just south of Tucson and it does not take long to get there.

Campers can camp at Bog Springs for up to two weeks at a time. We located a site at the campground and set up our tent. While we were there we saw many deer and some turkeys.

I’ve been enjoying the Earth while being out of school, because of school closures due to COVID-19.  I’ve been doing a lot of hiking through Arizona.  I saw a lot of wildlife like chuckwallas, geckos and chipmunks.  I even got to see a beehive up close.  My dad got me a new bike and I’ve been riding it all over the neighborhood with him.  My sister and I made obstacle course in our backyard.  I’ve had a lot of fun doing these things outdoors.

Recently I visited the Casa Grande Ruins National Park with my Girl Scout Troop. It was very fun and the sites were amazing.

There were many structures that the Sonoran Desert People’s ancestors built a long time ago. There were many small and regular houses and there was one called the ‘Big House.’ The Big House is where the people gathered if they needed a meeting or to get together. All of the houses were made out of a claymud substance.

Have you ever stayed in a wolf’s lodge with all the fun under one roof? Well, I have—it was called the Great Wolf Lodge. I went just before New Year’s for two days, Dec. 28 and 29, 2019. There are other locations for the lodge in states such as California, Texas and Washington. I went to the one in Scottsdale at Talking Stick.
