TUCSON BUDDY WALK IS NOVEMBER 3, 2019

Get ready Tucson! The 2019 annual Buddy Walk is marching your way. This year’s Buddy Walk is on Sunday, Nov. 3, from noon to 4 p.m. at Reid Park, Tucson at De Meester Outdoor Performance Center.

The Buddy Walk is a group for Down syndrome. The SANDS and National Down syndrome Society, who fund the Buddy Walk, raise money in order to fund research and education. Money raised through this program also provides the operating budget for the following year and the Give it Back! Program (GIB), which provides scholarships and helps fund for things families with someone with Down syndrome can’t afford.

The program has been going since 1995, and h as expanded from around 17 walks to more than 250 walks last year! It’s the 19th annual walk in Tucson, and this year is race car themed! SANDS is also asking attendees to bring hot wheels cars and unopened hotwheel packs for local donation. Registration is free because the event wants to celebrate the families with Down syndrome.

At the event there will be information for families, a couple of inflatables, and a kids game section, and of course, the walk itself. The walk is less than 1 mile but it’s the biggest walk anyone can do without special training.

I interviewed Allyson Schug, president of SANDS and co-chairman of the walk. She said, “Whether you have Down syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, come and join us at the 2019 Buddy Walk!”

I will be there myself helping at my friend Jacob Schug’s booth. You can join any team you’d like, or host your own team. Jacob’s team is called Jacob’s Jets. His team has been doing the walk for seven years now. Their goal is $5,000 to help reach the big goal of $75,000.

I hope to see you at the 2019 Tucson Buddy Walk! Just go to www.ds-stride.org/tucsonbuddywalk  for more information.
